Croeso / Welcome to HyCymru

PROJECTS | KNOWLEDGE | POLICY

HyCymru, the Wales Hydrogen Trade Association, will advance the hydrogen economy in Wales in the 2020s.

Progress on hydrogen is being made across the world to deliver deep decarbonisation and clean air.

This will provide huge green growth opportunities and for which Wales is, literally, superbly placed.

Services

In 2022, we conducted a survey to inform our work ahead.

Key question:

Which of the following HyCymru services interest you most?

Via this website, we are delivering a digital 1-stop-shop platform to network, advocate & learn. To help build Wales’ hydrogen economy.

Projects

We are capacity-builders.

We support the rapid deployment of hydrogen projects in Wales by building capacity in Wales, together with international partners, to deliver.

Knowledge

We are compiling hydrogen data.

In honour of the Welsh inventor of the hydrogen fuel cell*, the William Grove knowledge-bank will be our digital source for technologies, policies, global projects, research breakthroughs and more.

*In 1842.

Policy

We are advocates.

We represent wide-ranging supporters and we support and urge policy-makers and regulatory bodies to help make Wales one of the most attractive places for hydrogen in the world.

Hydrogen Map of Wales

We want Wales place to be one of the best in the world for growing the hydrogen economy. Resources, infrastructure & ports, markets, companies, research, innovation – are all here.

HyCymru Focus Areas

Infrastructure

We are initiating a work programme to assess hydrogen infrastructure for Wales.

Wales can produce substantial amounts of hydrogen and its derivatives, especially from offshore wind resource, and can also act as a terminal for global imports.

Skills

We have published a Hydrogen Skills report and staged a workshop with Cardiff and Vale College in July 2023.

Results of the workshop, which have national relevance, will be published in Autumn 2023.

Read our Hydrogen Skills report here.

Policy & Regulation

In order to make Wales a leading hydrogen economy, we work with government and authorities to help shape and inform policy and regulations.

This includes informing the preparation of the Welsh Government’s Hydrogen in Wales Pathway which was published in 2021.

International Collaboration

We co-operate with international partners to establish best practice, share knowledge and promote trade between Wales and the world on hydrogen.

To include the tremendous potential of developing a Celtic partnership on hydrogen between Wales and Ireland.
